Protein Packed Guacamole Recipe (10g+ Protein!)
I had just finished a beefy CrossFit workout and was left wondering what to eat. I was craving guacamole, but wanted more protein. Emboldened by my recent success of adding whey powder to a cauliflower mash, I though, what the heck, let's jack up the guacamole. I took my brother-in-laws lazy man guacamole recipe (salsa and avocado) and added nutritional yeast, spices, and whey protein.
If you read some of my other recipes you know I love nutritional yeast. Not only is it a good source of complete proteins but also B vitamins, which improves the energy output of food. It doesn't hurt that it's just plain tasty.
Scared that I had just destroyed a perfectly good avocado, I gave it a taste... and it was good! Don't believe me? Try it for yourself. Warning, the first time I ate both servings for lunch and barely needed to eat anything else for the rest of the day.
- 1 ripe avocado, peeled, pitted
- 1.5 tbsp salsa
- 1/2 small lime, juiced
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp minced dried onion
- 1/2 scoop unflavoured whey protein powder
- 2 tsp of nutritional yeast
- 1 tbsp fresh minced cilantro
- Sriracha to taste (I recommend 1/8 tsp)
- Lightly mash avocado in medium mixing bowl
- Add remaining ingredients and mix until well blended
IMPORTANT: make sure you use a good quality UNFLAVOURED whey protein powder. I really like Isopure's Unflavoured Whey Protein Isolate, which I recently subscribed to on amazon, but there are lots of other great brands out there.
